"Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state."

Those are the words of Texas Gov.

Greg Abbott in a press release announcing that Corinth, Texas, has been designated a "Music Friendly Texas Certified Community."

The designation from the Texas Music Office helps communities attract and develop the local music industry, which generated more than $26 billion in economic activity in Texas in 2017, according to the release.

"Corinth is a vibrant example of the music community's best," says Mayor Bill Heidemann.

The certification is the first for the Music Friendly Texas program, which aims to foster music business-related economic development and job creation in communities across the state, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

"We wanted to make it known that Corinth now has an amazing outdoor venue and is looking to attract performers," Heidemann says.

"We also believe this certification is an indicator of our City's commitment to providing a high quality of life for our residents as it encourages the development of performing arts in our community."

City Manager Scott Campbell adds that Corinth will be hosting "several new events this year that focus on musical acts," and "we hope to encourage more through participating in the Music Friendly Texas certification program."
