Central Florida Cultural Scene: Season of Leadership Change

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park, Fla., is getting a new curator.

Kayli R.Rideout, who has worked at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Jewish Museum in New York City, and the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the US Foundation of State, will take over for Hugh F.McKean, the museum's first director, the Orlando Sentinel reports.Rideout earned a doctorate at Boston University, where her research focused on American decorative arts and material culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly Tiffany's work.

In fact, her dissertation examined Tiffany's Confederate memorial windows; she looked at the artist's way of memory making alongside the continuing desire to commemorate the "Lost Cause" of the South.

"She is absolutely a dream come true," says museum director and chief curator Jennifer Thalheimer in announcing the appointment.Rideout has worked at the Tiffany & Co.

Earlier in the year, Orlando Museum of Art got a new chief curator when Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon was hired for the position after serving in an interim role.
