The head of arts at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has been named one of the world's 100 most influential people in the arts.

Emma Nicolson was named head of visual arts at Creative Scotland last week, reports the Guardian, which notes that she's "renowned for her thinking, strategic development, deep commitment to societal and environmental engagement, developed through a portfolio career that includes leadership roles in arts and culture organizations in the UK and Australia."

As head of arts at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Nicolson "led the development of a transformative arts strategy that seamlessly integrated art, nature, science, and environmental concerns," per a press release.

Among her other responsibilities at RBGE, Nicolson oversaw the building of the Climate House and the Serpentine Galleries' "significant collaboration with the Serpentine Galleries, which focused on ecological and climate issues."

As for Nicolson's new role, she says she's "thrilled and honored," per the Guardian.

"This underscores a commitment to the cultural landscape and the development sustainable practices within the arts," she says.

"Where she is dedicated to the visual arts agenda, Emma curated for Lothian and Fife museums going on to hold senior management positions at institutions such as Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, and the National Read the Entire Article
