Labour Vows to Improve Arts Accessibility

If Britain's Labour Party is re-elected next month, it says it will spend more on the country's arts if it becomes prime minister.

The party's "manifesto" says it will spend 0.5% of GDP on the arts, on everything from boosting access to cultural assets to supporting 16-year-olds in creative subjects until they turn 16, the Guardian reports.

"Access to music, drama, film, and sport has become difficult and expensive because of ticket resales," the manifesto says.

"With Labour, the arts and music will no longer be the preserve of a privileged few."

The arts "should be an essential part of supporting children and young people develop creativity and find their voice," the manifesto says.

The party says it will also improve access to cultural assets by requiring publicly funded national museums and galleries to increase the loans they make from their collections, the Telegraph reports.

The manifesto says Labour will also support children in studying a creative or vocational subject until they are 16, and ensure accountability measures reflect this.

"Our approach will back what makes Britain: our excellent research institutions, professional services, advanced manufacturing, and creative industries," the manifesto says. Read the Entire Article
