The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is about to move from its home at the Saint Francis Business Center to a new one in downtown Fort Wayne.
The philharmonic will buy the former Saint Francis Business Center/Historic Chamber of Commerce building at 826 Ewing Street, which will become its new home for rehearsal, educational, and administrative offices, according to a press release.
Chuck and Lisa Surack, owners of the building, say they're investing in "another corner of downtown Fort Wayne" and are "thrilled to invest in another corner of downtown Fort Wayne."
The philharmonic's move to the new building will allow it to "further establish itself as a cornerstone of the city's cultural landscape," says Philharmonic CEO Brittany Hall.
The current home of the philharmonic, the Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center, will be renovated.
The University of Saint Francis, which plans to expand its Music Technology and Dance programs downtown, will also own the building.
"We see this as an important step in helping integrate Allen County's economic development focus for Fort Wayne to be a Top 10 music city, alongside the University of Saint Francis efforts to best meet the evolving needs of our students," says university president Lance Richey.
