Sadie Parkinson grew up listening to The Avett Brothers, playing guitar with her father, and studying at School of Rock Oak Park, a performance-based music program.
Now a high school senior in suburban Chicago, she'll be heading to Los Angeles next month for the Grammy Museum's annual Grammy Camp, a seven-day music industry program for high school students interested in pursuing careers in music, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The camp offers seven career tracks: audio engineering, electronic music production, songwriting, performance-vocal, music and media, and music business.
"I watched her develop from a young teenager to a beautiful, creative, talented young woman and I've enjoyed seeing her grow over the years," Amy Renzulli, owner of School of Rock, tells the Tribune.
During the camp, which runs July 14-20 at the Village Recording Studios, Sadie, who is pursuing the songwriting track, will learn ghost writing for other artists, as well as work on songwriting skills with other writers.
She's also looking forward to seeing Grammy award-winning artist Maren Morris, an alumna from the inaugural camp, who will be one of the three guest artists this year.

A Gilesgate-based shop and community facility, Hexham’s Core Music, launches a separate workshop where up to six people will be trained how to repair guitars and make ukuleles. The European Social Fund grant supported the project and has secured funds through the County Durham Communication Foundation to equip the workshop in Burn Lane.
