"Growing up in Southern California, Walt Disney Concert Hall was the venue for me where all the great musicians came to perform," Holly Lacey tells the South Pasadenan.

"From a young age, I've been fortunate enough to attend performances at this iconic venue, witnessing esteemed artists like Itzhak Perlman and Hilary Hahn grace its stage time and time again."

On June 4, 2024, the 17-year-old will get to do just that as the winner of the Music Center Spotlight Competition in the classical instrumental category.

Lacey, who's from South Pasadena, Calif., beat 1,520 other students from across Southern California to win a $5,000 scholarship and the opportunity to perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Music Center's Spotlight Team.

She'll also be attending two music festivals this summer and will be working on her college application in the fall.

The Music Center's Spotlight Competition is a nationally acclaimed free performing arts competition, scholarship, and artistic development program for teens.

More than $2.8 million in scholarships has been awarded since the program's inception in 1981.

This year, two students won each of the seven categories: acting, classical instrumental, classical voice, contemporary instrumental, dance, and non-classical voice.
