The San Francisco Symphony will have a new chief in 2024and he's a German native.
Janos Gereben, music director of the Bavarian State Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, has been named as the symphony's new executive director, effective Oct.
1, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The 49-year-old, who will be the symphony's first openly gay chief, says he's "thrilled and honored" to be the orchestra's choice.
"It's a great privilege and a great honor to be given the opportunity to lead the San Francisco Symphony," he says in a statement.
"I am looking forward to working with the entire orchestra and the entire Bay Area community in the years to come."
Gereben, who will be the symphony's first openly gay chief, has been music director of the Bavarian State Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra since 2012, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
