Edith Cowan University's new campus in Perth, Australia, is under construction and set to open in semester one of the next school year, but the biggest-ever donation to the performing arts in the country has just been made.
The $30 million donation from the Minderoo Foundation will go to the university's Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, which will use the funds to build a new state-of-the-art campus that will include eight world-class performance venues, the BBC reports.
"The bigger picture for the performing arts in Western Australia is beginning to emerge, with remarkable talent set to pass through the doors of ECU City WAAPA in 2026as our new $233 million Perth Film Studios welcomes its first productions and the revitalised Perth Cultural Centre opens to the public," says ECU President Christine Smyth in a press release.
The Minderoo Foundation's CEO, Felicity Proust, says the goal is to "support the future excellence and sustainability of the revered Perth-based performing arts training academy," the West Australian reports.
The Minderoo Foundation's previous donations to the performing arts in Australia ranged from $5 million to $15 million, the BBC notes.
