The phoenix sculpture was created with support from the Jamestown Parent Teacher Organization.
English teacher Brittany Richer Ahrund and artist Alex Perrine wanted to raise awareness of plastic pollution while being creative.
Perrine used discarded objects, including parts from other sculptures, and items donated from members of the community.
The decision was made to keep the sculpture indoors because the feathers designed by the students were more delicate than expected.
