Longview Arts Groups Get $128K In State Grants

The Texas Commission on the Arts recently approved more than 900 grants totaling $11.6 million to communities with state-designated cultural districts.

The grants are available only to communities with such districts, and in Longview, Texas, that means more than $1.2 million in artistic improvements and programming will have been funded in the city since 2019, says Arts!Longview Executive Director Christina Cavazos.

The district includes the city's historic train depot as well as the Longview Museum of Fine Arts, which was awarded a $50,000 grant for renovations to its planned new home in the former bank building downtown.

Arts!Longview also received a $16,500 grant for enhancements to its Cultural District, and the Longview Symphony was awarded a $20,000 Cultural District grant to help pay for its "Star Wars Through the Years" concert in April.

The Texas Downtown Association also recently announced that Arts!Longview is a finalist in the President's Awards for Best Downtown Partner.
