The University of Rhode Island's School of Creative Arts is in the news again, this time for a tuition hike that some are calling "absurd," reports the Providence Journal.
The tuition increase, which went into effect last week, will raise the cost of the school's master's and doctorate programs by an average of 30%, to $34,000 for the master's program and $38,000 for the doctorate, reports the school's website.
In a blog post about the hike, the dean of the university's School of Creative Arts explains that the reason for the increase is that the school's budget has been cut nearly in half over the last few years.
"This is not an increase in tuition," he writes.
"It's an increase in the quality of education for our students."
