Heart of the Humanities: New Sister Maria Cordis Richey Center for the Humanities and Creative Arts

Sister Maria Cordis Richey, a renowned poet and former president of New Jersey's Georgian Court University, died last month at the age of 50.

She left behind a center for the humanities and creative arts that's now named in her honor, NJ.com reports.

"In an era when the humanities are often undervalued, the heart of the humanities is growing stronger at Georgian Court with the creation of the Sister Maria Cordis Richey Center for the Humanities and Creative Arts," says the university in a statement.

"The center serves as a vibrant hub for the humanities and creative arts, elevating their profile throughout the university."

The Sister Maria Cordis Richey Center for the Humanities and Creative Arts will feature a virtual version of the university's Richey Center for the Humanities and Creative Arts, as well as a humanities career resources section for students.

"We are committed to this center and believe in what we are trying to do, to not only honor Sister Maria's legacy, but to build on that great GCU humanities legacy and show the value of what humanities can bring to everyone," says the university's vice president for academic affairs.
